Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers — or heart disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases — when us mortals do? In this enlightening and EASY to read book. Biologist Robert Sapolsky dissects the anatomy/physiology and science of stress. Sapolsky postulates that people develop such diseases partly because our bodies aren’t designed for the constant stresses of our modern-day life — like sitting in daily traffic or growing up in poverty. Rather, our bodies are more built for the kind of short-term stress faced by a zebra — like outrunning a lion.
This is a must read book for anyone who feels stressed, and/or would like to be the cause over it rather then the effect of it. I have read it cover to cover twice and will most likely re-read it again, as I gleaned even more useful data the last time.
